The Munro Academy Early Learning Centre (MAELC) is a fully licensed Christian early learning centre serving Northside families through providing high quality, family centered child care services for children from 6 months to 12 years old within our community with licensed capacity 149 children. MAELC implements Nova Scotia Curriculum Framework: Capable, Confident and Curious. MAELC hours of operation are 7:30 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. Monday- Friday.
Job Summary:
The MAELC Interim Assistant Director position is a leadership role to cover a term position resulting from a sick leave. The Assistant Director is part of the Administration Team and reports to the MAELC Director. The Assistant Director assists the Director in coordination, supervision, and implementation of all aspects of the operation, ensuring compliance with MAELC Policies and Procedures and Mission, the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Acts and Regulations, and The Canadian Child Care Federation Best Practices. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for any other duties designated by the Director and will assume Director responsibilities for brief periods of time when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete the Quality Investment Grant (QIG) form on a bi-weekly basis.
- Complete Subsidy form on a monthly basis.
- Create and distribute and parent invoices on a monthly basis.
- Ensure each rooms weekly Program Planning is posted for each parents view
- Attend and assist in the coordination of MAELC Staff meetings, Administrative Meetings, Parent and Committee Meetings. Provide input on the topics discussed and take notes.
- Attend MAELC celebrations and social gatherings
- Assist the Director in monitoring availability of child care spaces and waiting list, maintaining the maximum enrolment of children
- Assist the Director in ensuring sufficient staffing at all times while maintaining appropriately efficient ratios.
- Assume Director responsibilities for brief periods of time when necessary
The assistant director will also support the director's key responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Ensure completion of ongoing licensing requirements
- ensure the health, safety, and comfort for all children and employees
- Deliberately cultivate a caring and healthy team environment with ECE educators and staff, through which staff model relationships characterized by professionality and the Christian ethic of love
- Keep staff updated on policies, procedures, changes, admissions
- Provide staff support and care in keeping with Munro’s Christian commitment
- In conjunction with the MAELC Committee, provide feedback/support in the interviewing, hiring, disciplining, dismissal, and orientations of staff.
- Cultivate healthy communication between staff and parents
- Support and supervise staff and ensure staff follow duties set by the job descriptions
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment and ensure compliance with all related protocol; work with the Head of School to ensure MAELC’s compliance with fire, safety and health regulations
- Ensure the maintenance of accurate attendance records, children’s and staff’s confidential records.
- Ensure all regulations, policies, procedures, and best practices are followed by staff, volunteers, students, and families.
- Ensure all children/ staff have proper and up to date paperwork on file
- Support and supervise staff and ensure staff follow duties set by the job descriptions
- Support MAELC Educators in teaching appropriate behaviours and skills through modelling, guiding, observing, demonstrating, and reinforcing positive and appropriate behaviour
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures by staying updated on the latest advancements and best practices in early childhood education, promoting continuous improvement and supporting quality improvement.
- Support the provision of high quality, Christian worldview incorporated and developmentally appropriate programming in accordance with organizational and legal guidelines
- Further develop and support teachers in implementing age appropriate Christian world view content
- Ensure that progress reports on children are completed as required for compliance, and distributed to parents
